In some thirty five years as an actor Charles Dance has amassed an impressive body of work in all media from title roles with THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY, and major work in London’s commercial theatre including, GOOD at The Donmar Warehouse, LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT with Jessica Lange, and more recently SHADOWLANDS for which he received The London Critics Circle Award for Best Actor. Amongst his television work is the much acclaimed series - THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN (BAFTA nomination for best actor) REBECCA, NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, FINGERSMITH, FALLEN ANGEL, CONSENTING ADULTS, BLEAK HOUSE for which he received an International Emmy nomination, and The British Press Guild Award for Best Actor, TRINITY, MERLIN, and the yet to be aired GOING POSTAL – the third of Terry Pratchett’s novels to be produced by Sky.
Major films include - PLENTY, WHITE MISCHIEF, GOOD MORNING BABYLON, THE GOLDEN CHILD, ALIEN 3, LAST ACTION HERO, HILARY AND JACKIE, MICHAEL COLLINS, Robert Altman’s GOSFORD PARK, STARTER FOR TEN for Sam Mendes’ Production Company and Woody Allen’s SCOOP. THE PERFECT DISAGREEMENT directed by Antoine de Caunes, THE CONTRACTER with Wesley Snipes, and more recently YOUR HIGHNESS directed by David Gordon Green, and THERE BE DRAGONS directed by Roland Joffe. In 2006 he made his debut as a film director and writer with the hugely successful LADIES IN LAVENDER with ‘The Great Dames’ Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.
