Simon Moseley began his film career as an assistant director with Merchant Ivory Productions, working on the seminal movies, A Room With A View, Howards End and The Remains of the Day.
Other early movies include Derek Jarman’s Caravaggio, Sally Potter’s Orlando, Mike Leigh’s Life Is Sweet and The Krays.
Simon first met Kenneth Branagh while working as 2nd AD on Frankenstein, and went on to work as First Assistant Director on his movies In The Bleak Midwinter, Othello (directed by Oliver Parker) Hamlet and Love’s Labours Lost.
Other First Assistant Director credits include Still Crazy with Billy Connolly, Tim Spall and Bill Nighy, Wings Of A Dove with Helena Bonham Carter, James Ivory’s Jefferson In Paris with Nick Nolte, Gwynneth Paltrow and Thandy Newton, Last Orders with Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine, Blow Dry with Natasha Richardson and Alan Rickman and Mike Newell’s Into The West with Gabriel Byrne and Ellen Barkin.
Simon began his Producing collaboration with Kenneth in 2003. Their first project As You Like It featuring Bryce Dallas Howard, Romola Garai, Kevin Klein, Alfred Molina, David Oyello and Adrian Lester went before the camera in spring 2005 for HBO & BBC Films.
In Spring 2006 Simon served as producer on The Magic Flute, a fifteen million pound independently financed film version of Mozart's opera, set during a major world conflict at the turn of the century. Featuring renowned opera singers Rene Pape and Lyubov Petrova it was a challenging production involving a year of preparation, 5 sound stages and 300 visual effects shots. The film was selected for a Gala presentation at La Fenice Opera house at The Venice Film festival and The Toronto Film Festival that year, 2006.
In 2006/7 Simon produced the recent reinvention of Sleuth featuring Michael Caine and Jude Law, again directed by Kenneth from a new adaptation by Harold Pinter. The film was also selected for the Venice and Toronto festivals (2007) and also screened at Copenhagen Film Festival, and Camerimage Lodz that year.
In 2008 Simon produced three films for television based on Henning Mankel’s Swedish detective novels. The shows averaged 6 million viewers, won six BAFTA awards and were nominated for two Emys.
In 2006 Simon Directed a short Film, Cards On The Table, which was shortlisted for the Kodak Short Film Competition 2007.
