Andrew Gillman is a highly experienced, award-winning director whose work crosses genres. He trained and worked for many years as a film editor. This skill, alongside his experience as a script reader, gives him a firm grasp and use of structure and timing.
His broadcast television work includes many landmark series particularly in the area of new comedy. He has made television commercials for Tango, Cadbury’s and Volvic amongst many others and, in the corporate communications sector he has worked with blue-chip clients include L’Oreal, Bacardi and the Metropolitan Police.
In broadcast Andrew is known for directing the THE DAY TODAY for BBC and 30 Years of Billy Connolly. For Channel 4 he directed Peter Kay’s television debut series THAT PETER KAY. More recently he directed the series ROB BRYDON’S ANNUALY RETENTIVE and the documentary ROB BRYDON: IDENTITY CRISIS. He also directed 3 episodes of MOVING WALLPAPER for ITV.
Early in his career two series as location director for Ruby Wax and 3 years on the Arts & Entertainments listings programme 01 FOR LONDON gave him a well-honed ability to think and work quickly and accurately under pressure
In the Corporate sector Andrew’s films are diverse – from a broad comedy for Lloyds TSB to a tense courtroom drama for The Directorate of Optometric Education and Training. He has made 3 short films IT’S NOT MY FAULT, I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING and IT WASN’T ME working with poet/writer Amanda White and is also developing the feature film A13 with Amanda. He collaborated with story-teller Vayu Naidu on her 2008 commission BHAKTI AND THE BLUES.
Andrew is a past chair of the film group the Directors Guild of Great Britain, currently serves on the film committee of Directors UK and is a voting BAFTA member.
