Shh! Speakeasy: Student Film Festival London’s Summer party
at Platform, Netil House on 18th of August
Student Film Festival London (SFFL), the new international film platform dedicated to students, are collaborating with London-based film networks International Student Film Organisation (ISFO) ,MUBI/GARAGE, Gorilla Film Magazine and Cigarette Burns Cinema to host one night of film, music and games.
The Summer party will take place in a tucked away venue in London Fields from 7pm so that guest can relive Prohibition’s excitement of sneaking in a Speakeasy for a clandestine drink.
MUBI/GARAGE will lend their extensive library collection for a silent mash-up screening of forbidden images to foster an atmosphere of danger.
Gorilla Film Magazine, are bringing their expertise in film and fun to organise the night’s entertainment through two creative film games, Monkey Roulette and Risk it for a Biscuit, designed exclusively for the event.
Incorporating social media into the evening, ISFO will organise a film pitching competition via twitter culminating in an award ceremony on the night. The winners will have a chance to win prizes and international exposure.
The audience will call the tunes as soundtrack suggestions from their favourite films of the Prohibition Era on SFF London’s Facebook wall will be compiled into a playlist for the event. SFF London will compile an extensive film collection for a silent mash-up screening of forbidden and censored images. Cigarette Burns Cinema will screen a teaser of their Pinky Violence autumn series at Rio Cinema, a Japanese film genre of the 70’s that focused specifically on ‘bad girl action films’ as described by the Toei studios.
Symbolising prohibition in its various guises, this background projection will present a reflection on alternative forms of culture prohibited over the years, making Netil House a place where previously repressed forms of expression are allowed to thrive.
