It would be difficult to be in Cannes and remain burdened by the financial crisis rolling out across Europe. But even here there are indications that it is close by. For the first time in many years things seem to have become cheaper, or have at least remained only as expensive as they were last year!
Three British directors in the competition this year. Mike Leigh has taken his traditional place in the event with 'Another Year' which screens today (Sat). Stephen Frears is here with 'Tamara Drewe' screening on Tuesday and an unusual last minute entry for Ken Loach with 'Route Irish' which entered the game so late in the day, it does not appear in any of the printed info, bringing the total numbr of films in competition to 19.
We wish them and Anglophile director Woody Allen, here with 'You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger' the very best of success in the competition and beyond.
Many thanks to Quintessentially for a great party on Pegasus 2 last night, a good time was had by all.
